Safeguarding adults is everyone's responsibility, not only managers. The principles are simple and the response process is well-defined.
The six principles
Empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnership, accountability.
Recognising abuse
Physical, emotional, financial, sexual, neglect, discriminatory, organisational, domestic, modern slavery, self-neglect.
What to do
Listen, take it seriously, record what was said verbatim where possible, report to your designated safeguarding lead, and don't investigate yourself.
Confidentiality
Share information on a need-to-know basis. Safeguarding can override confidentiality where there is risk of significant harm.
